The courses follow your individual pace for maximum flexibility and results. Studying at an individual pace means that the course will be tailored to your personal needs and goals!

Learning objectives for A1

The beginner course is the most important building block for learning the Norwegian language. It offers the basics in the Norwegian language.

After completing this level, you will be able to interact with others in Norwegian in a simple manner, for example meet and greet and everyday conversations.

You will be able to listen and understand simple questions if your conversation partner speaks slowly and clearly, and you can also answer simple questions about yourself and about the place you live.

You can talk about people you know and things that interests you.

Our main objective is to make you comfortable speaking Norwegian language.


Main learning objectives:

  • Common verbs in present, past and future tenses
  • Basic grammar and pronunciation
  • Common phrases related to meet and greet situations
  • Agree and disagree with statements
  • Write simple essays
  • Read simple texts from everyday life


Course duration

The expected duration is 2 months.


Accredited language course provider

Lingu is accredited by Kompetanse Norge (formerly Vox). You will get a course certificate, which is valid for permanent residence and citizenship applications in Norway. You can be accredited for maximum 12 hours per week* for all learning activities combined.

The classes

As a member of Lingu’s A1 course, you can study when it suits you. You have access to all A1 classes and you can attend as many as you want!

The classroom lessons are held twice per week at our language centres in Oslo and Stavanger, and the online lessons are available from any smartphone, tablet or laptop.

This course is a subscription course, which means you will set up a monthly or quarterly payment agreement, and your card will automatically be charged for your access until you unsubscribe. You can easily cancel your subscription any time from your member page.

When you have completed level, you can upgrade to the next level with a simple click.


Course materials

Online course: No course materials or books are strictly required in order to attend our courses.


For the in-house classes in Oslo or Stavanger course participants need to bring the following books to the classes. You can order the books online, or you can buy them when you arrive at our language centre.

Recorded lessons

Recorded lessons will be available in the recordings archive so you can easily browse and find the information you need, whether that is pronunciation training, grammar, or any other topic.



A1 exercises and level test

You will get access to various exercises online, which help you practice grammar, reading and writing skills and build a larger vocabulary. After 4 weeks, you will get access to a level test for A1. If you complete the test with sufficient score, you can upgrade to the next level (A2).

The Fast-track Online course is a more structured and more intensive version of our regular Simply Online course. 

The Fast-track Online course includes full access to our regular, Simply Online course and in addition, offers you twice-weekly scheduled live classes with a teacher in a small group. During these classes, you follow a textbook-based programme, and you get a real classroom feel, just as if you were attending lessons at Lingu school in person.  

You will see all the classroom members online with you, you will work together and communicate just like at school, will receive personal feedback from a teacher.

This course is great for you if you like the flexibility of learning, but you also work better with personal feedback direct navigation, and regularly scheduled group tasks and conversations. 

By joining a Fast-Track course you will receive full access to our regular Simply Online plan, and additionally, you will get:

Our Fast-Track course includes:

  • Access to regular twice-weekly Fast-track Online classes (choice between morning or evening) with the same teacher and the same small groups of students, working following a book and providing a classroom feel and regular personal feedback (these classes are only a part of our Fast-Track Online course and not the Simply Online course)

  • Access to flexibly scheduled online live interactive classes, which you can join whenever it suits you (which are a part of the Simply Online course)

  • Access to self-study material available around the clock (which is a part of the Simply Online course). 

Our Fast-Track course is:

  • A hybrid course with a structured approach, allowing you to study regularly during Fast -Track Online classes and learning the rest flexibly, whenever it suits you best with the Simply Online flexible classes and available 24/7 self-study materials. 

  • A course with regular lesson times (twice-weekly) and a course programme with one dedicated teacher and personal feedback, and additional flexible live classes to join whenever you wish.

  • Small groups with the same students (groups of maximum 14)

  • Staying on track by following a course book and receiving individual feedback on your progress from your teacher.
