Master the Stavanger dialect
CEFR Level: B1 Intermediate level
Have you ever struggled with the local dialect in Stavanger? Or have you been frustrated about the gap between what you learn in the classroom and what you hear people say?
We believe that expats and internationals will benefit from learning our local dialect and that is why we have created this video-based online course in Stavanger dialect. The course will be available for FREE for a limited time.
During the course we will use English as support language, but a lot of content is also in Norwegian language, and in Stavanger dialect in particular. So we have aimed this course at students who have completed the elementary (A2) or higher level of Norwegian previously. However, if you are a beginner, you will still benefit from the course, just go slowly and don't lose your motivation even if you don't understand everything that is said in Norwegian.
Chapter 1 covers the dialects in the whole country, not just in Stavanger. In this chapter you will learn about how dialects developed and get a bird's eye overview over the dialects today.
Chapter 2 and onwards are concerning the Stavanger dialect in particular. You will listen and see how people talk, and pick up lots of words and pronunciation peculiarities through real-life examples, as well as learning a bit about the history of the city.
