Norway is a country rich in fascinating variations and differences, and understanding these is key to truly getting to know Norwegian society. One of the most noticeable differences is the wide range of dialects you can encounter—on your Norwegian course, you may have learnt to use “jeg” when talking about yourself, but then you might have a neighbour who says “æg” and a colleague who says “i”. But dialects are just the beginning. In this webinar, Yngvil, our social studies star teacher, will take you on a journey through Norwegian culture, exploring the many ways Norwegians live, work, and celebrate. You will learn about the flat structure of Norwegian workplaces, where hierarchy is minimal and collaboration is valued above formal authority. We will dive into cultural norms and customs shaped by Norway’s unique history, from Viking traditions to the influence of geography on community life. Yngvil will also guide you through Norway’s most important celebrations, such as Constitution Day (17. mai), Christmas traditions, and midsummer festivities, explaining how these events reflect core Norwegian values like equality, community, and connection with nature. By the end of the webinar, you’ll gain not only a better understanding of Norwegian dialects but also a deeper appreciation of the social and cultural context behind everyday life in Norway. Join us to learn about real Norway.
